How Should We Learn to Say "NO"?

A professor told me about this conversation. In the elevator he commented to another professor that he was having trouble finding a babysitter. Just then the doors opened and several students entered. After the commotion settled the other professor turned to the first and said, “There is a very nice 14-year-old girl in my neighborhood. You might like to give her a call.” Everyone turned and looked at the two of them, shocked, but he only said, “You missed the first part of the conversation.”

I completely fail to see how anyone can take offense to this. Is the cosmetics department also offensive? Activewear? Shoes? If the lady has to go home and look up the guidelines to determine whether she is supposed to be offended then clearly she is reaching. Reaching for some cheap limelight from the looks of it.

I got a better suggestion that would work both to keep ladies on good physical form and reduce the stupidity in the above suggestion... Ladies that are scared of men and afraid every second something will happen can do : Study self protection ( effective and well popular ) or...and even better for the form! Just use the darn stairs!

Why is it that "fight back" never advised ? Afraid that it would break the "wa" spirit of Japanese women ? I saw a documentary once on discovery channel about FBI profiling rapists. They basically asked rapists "what make good targets ?". One of the result was "appearing weak". Most would give up if the to-be victim even put up a little bit of a fight, for fear of getting caught if they can't do their act fast enough.

According to Tokyo police Take care when riding elevators if someone enters just before the doors close. If you find yourself alone with a person you do not know, stand in the location shown in the diagram, keeping your back to the wall, not the other person. Stand close to where you can reach the emergency bell, and get off the elevator at the nearest floor. After doing so, check to see which floor the elevator has stopped at before boarding again and making your way to your floor.

Not mine but a good friend's story: My friend was a Japanese interpreter for the 2006 Pan Pacific swimming championships in Tokyo. She happened to be staying at the same hotel as the USA swim team. She got onto an elevator late one night and Michael Phelps and another female swimmer were already in the elevator. As they were ascending, Phelps and the girl were going off about how they were going to rail each other and just literally fuck until they passed out. They assumed that my friend who is Japanese-american didn't understand a lick of english. My friend got off a few floors below them. When exiting she told them to "have a nice night". She didn't look back but I can only imagine their faces showed some embarrassment. But then again its Michael Phelps so he probably didn't even care.

I was a teenager, in a hotel elevator in NYC with a younger girl I knew and I couldn't resist the urge so I jumped...........up in the air, and when I landed, the elevator wobbled, and froze in between floors. The girl started bawling, believing we would fall to our deaths 42 floors below. We were stuck there for 30 minutes before they opened the doors and had us slide out.

I have a Japanese friend who lives here in the Philippines. During her first month she found herself alone in an elevator with some guy who just spontaneously started singing. It's not really that common here, but yeah, it does happen. My friend was totally shocked, she didn't know what to do, if it was some culture-thing or if she was expected to do anything or what... ...so she clapped.
