There is a strange duality about the perception of the two tyrants from the past century. While Adolf Hitler is notorious and practically universally despised, Joseph Stalin still maintains a sort of superiority as the winner of the Great War. Especially in his little hometown in present Georgia, Stalin, who murdered millions across the USSR, is seen as a hero to take pride in.
While it is unlikely to see souvenirs with Hitler’s face on them in Austria, Stalin’s busts and other memorabilia depicting the dictator are part of tourist merchandise in Georgia. What do you think? Should Georgians stop bragging about Stalin being Georgian?
